Server History

A chronicle of the Xandaris Hardcore SMP from its founding.

Day Zero — Setup (February 15, 2026)

The Xandaris server was brought online on the evening of February 15, 2026. samboyd spent the first hours configuring plugins, testing chat formatting, and iterating on the server setup — cycling through multiple restarts and world regenerations.

Once RandomSpawnZ was configured, samboyd received his first true random spawn. He survived exactly 67 seconds before being slain by a Zombie — the very first death on the server.

After respawning, he built a small base along a river near the world origin and began preparing for the public launch.

Day One — Grand Opening (February 16, 2026)

samboyd and Asa_Akiraa posted the server on PlanetMinecraft, minecraft-server-list.com, and Reddit. The first wave of players arrived within the hour.

The mood was electric — and short-lived. Players began dying almost immediately. samboyd welcomed every newcomer, explaining the rules and begging them to be careful. He established the server's guiding promise:

"no p2w and no map resets — forever"

The DeadEnderChest plugin — a custom creation by samboyd — was deployed, allowing players to access a dead player's ender chest by holding their dropped head. Sigward_f killed samboyd to test it. It worked.

The server crashed multiple times under the load of new players. samboyd upgraded the hardware and pressed on. The world border was set to 1,000,000 blocks (500k in each direction).

A spawn bug in RandomSpawnZ caused several players to suffocate inside blocks on login. samboyd pardoned the affected players and worked to fix the configuration.

By the end of the day, samboyd estimated that 75% of players had already died.

Notable firsts

  • First death: samboyd, slain by Zombie (Feb 15, 22:41 UTC)
  • First chat message: samboyd typing ".help"
  • First player-built structure: samboyd's base near spawn
  • First server crash: Feb 16, ~02:31 UTC

Day Two — The End & The Exodus (February 17, 2026)

The Ender Dragon Falls

vphlIo defeated the Ender Dragon — the first player to do so. samboyd and OrangeBubly teleported to the End shortly after to witness the aftermath.

Full Netherite

Meat_Mattress became the first player to earn the [Cover Me in Debris] challenge (full Netherite armor), with samboyd completing it minutes later.

The PluckedHorseHair Incident

PluckedHorseHair — already notorious from a previous server called LHC — killed samboyd in PvP. This was the culmination of tensions that had been building since before Xandaris existed. samboyd later said:

"horsehair literally killed me and my entire team"

The kill accelerated the community's decision to abandon the base near spawn and relocate far away. samboyd chose a remote island and began teleporting trusted players to the new location, which became known as The Island.

The Revive Debate

samboyd announced he was building a revive mechanic plugin — a ritual using a dead player's head and Netherite to bring them back. The idea sparked debate:

"im still not sold on keeping the revive ritual in the game... its kinda unfair to the 80 ppl who are already banned"

The plugin was never completed.

Other events

  • XiDipole was kicked for using a hacked client.
  • The SimpleVoiceChat proximity voice chat plugin was installed.
  • samboyd set the world border to 1,000,000 blocks.
  • Several players who died to the spawn suffocation bug were pardoned and given second chances.

Day Three — Growing Pains (February 18, 2026)

Anticheat Drama

The GrimAC anticheat flagged ChickenFiesta for fastbreak violations tied to their modded client. samboyd spent hours investigating, eventually acknowledging the false positive problem:

"i might have to disable it, some people have been having issues"

The #deaths Channel Saga

samboyd began a two-evening marathon to get death messages working in Discord's #deaths channel. The CustomDeathMessages plugin had multiple bugs — cause-specific messages never loaded, and the Discord integration refused to display player names properly, showing "ENTITY_NAME" instead.

samboyd died over a dozen times testing — via RCON commands, intentional falls, drowning, and asking friends to kill him. At one point the server bot killed him via RCON:

"fucking claude killed me"

Casualties

  • ChickenFiesta died during the anticheat investigation period.
  • Meat_Mattress was confirmed dead — fell from a high place.
  • Ansley died to a skeleton horse trap near The Island.

Day Four — A Server Takes Shape (February 19, 2026)

#deaths Goes Live

After two nights of debugging, the #deaths Discord channel finally worked. samboyd announced triumphantly:

"ok.... its finally working. #deaths is live"

"embarassing how long that took me"

Island Life

With major plugin work behind him, samboyd began actually playing the game for the first time — enchanting gear, trading with villagers for mending books, and planning new builds at The Island.

Sigward_f left an HOA violation note on samboyd's build. samboyd was not amused.

The Island's residents settled into daily life: breeding villagers, worrying about podzol spreading, building with pale oak and mushroom stem, and watching new players spawn in and die from a safe distance. samboyd and Sigward privately bet on how long each new player would last.

samboyd announced his next building project — "a giant mushroom, like a psilocybe."

Server Statistics (as of Day Four)

Stat Value
Survival rate ~10%
Ender Dragon Defeated (vphlIo, Feb 17)
Biggest killer Skeletons (21 kills server-wide)
Active players at peak 8-10 simultaneous

Ongoing

The server continues to run with no resets planned. The survival rate remains brutal, the world keeps expanding, and samboyd keeps welcoming new players with the same warning:

"pls dont die, ban on death"
